A chaotic upheaval of hardcore mixed with metal and grindcore, Uphill Battle release their self-titled debut album on Relapse Records. Riddled with a major hardcore influence, U.B. prove to be heavy in every way, shape, and form. Excruciatingly brutal and dripping with a persistent speed, their sound will make anybody fond of this genre weep. Lyrics are similar to Rotten Sound with shredding screams on top of chunky, slightly technical riffs. When breakdowns appear, they run slow and are polished with high screams. Although I do not particularly like hardcore Metal, Uphill Battle seems to possess great speed, which is always hard to deny. Speed does not necessarily spell t-a-l-e-n-t, but in this case talent is present. (The one thing that I do despise about Hardcore, in general, is the style of moshing that comes along with it. It reminds me of a Catatonic Schizophrenic that is not quite sure where the hell they are. More or less, these moshers appear to have a severe psychomotor disorder, which is quite annoying to look at.) Anyway, ferocious drum blasts rarely quit, and are played at high intensity. UB is definitely not full of pretension. They deliver a good attack on this genre of Metal. You judge them for yourself.
