Unearth's latest should be called "How Ironic is This Title?" Alas, Endless is but four songs long, one of which was on the last one (but still fucking good, thank you). My only complaint is that this isn't a full album. I really like the direction I'm hearing on Endless; while there is still a hardcore edge, the three new songs are definitely more metal than punk, which possibly won't be welcome by some of their fan base, but personally I am quite pleased. For this reason, "My Desire," off of Stings, one of the more metal songs on that album, fits in very well here. The comparison between this song and the first three new ones is interesting: the band sounds tighter, the vocals stronger, the bass a little higher in the mix. There is definitely a lot more chugga-chugga on the new songs. More headbanging interludes and less moshpit fodder. The production on the new songs is far superior as well. This band is just going to keep getting better, it seems.I think my favorite out of the new songs is "The Charm," but they all smoke. There is something about harmonizing guitars, however brief, that always gets me. The lyrics are also great, I've been haunted for days by the "Children killing children" line from "Internal War." At times these new songs hearken back to old school metal which really works well with the hardcore vocals (much like Darkest Hour, one of my favorite bands).
Bottom line is, although I regret this is just an EP, if you can find it, get it. These guys deserve to be supported for putting out much better stuff than anything you'll hear on the radio.
