Normally I am very happy with the average Southern Lord release that finds its way into my ears. However, I feel obliged by reason and good sense to point out that this release being done on 666 copies of black vinyl is not only fucking retarded but also a symptom a band who are trying very hard to fit in. But then, when you move from Russia to Israel for the specific reason that, "...everything that happens in this country could be never connected, because nobody knows about TANGORODRIM and because we don't give a shit about this "fanatic religion", and about metal scene - there is no real metal scene, including us. We don't belong to any scene/race at all." (sic) Yes indeed, we moved to Israel so our black metal antics would go unnoticed, brilliant fucking plan gentlemen. Their aloofness from scenes is apparent as they, "...raise our bottles to ETERNAL ATMOSPHERE OF UNHOLY BLACK METAL!" Brilliant!Right, so the black metal band from Israel by way of Russia that is not actually a black metal band. How do they sound? The answer is fantastic in the ugliest way possible. Showing all the production savvy of Moonblood, the boys from Zion tear through riffs that could have been blessed by Quorthon's own fingers under a cloak of buzz, fuzz, and haze that leaves the listener assured the performers were sweating booze for the duration of tracking. Bathory's The Return and Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Sky are both represented in equal portions of ass kicking on this record. What the band lacks in originality, Tangorodrim more than make up for in bestial enthusiasm.
While I hate to encourage the practice of limited vinyl runs, I can't help but endorse this rag-tag trio of clones, because what they do, they do so well. If you miss the old days of raw fuckoff black metal then look no further. Unholy and Unlimited is a putrid old-school gem that carries the blessing of Hellhammer. I leave you with lyrical comedic gold:
The splinters of the broken bottles
Trapped in the throat...
Ha Ha... shouldn't make me angry!
