I'm not sure what I can say about Sunn0))) that I didn't say in my last review of them, for Flight of the Behemoth. Our boardie Simons_Bitch, who I work with, came into my office while White1 was playing and declared that Sunn0))) was stealing her soul. Yeah, that's a little weird, but I knew what she was saying. They have such a fascination with droning in minor keys that, after a while, you feel like you're being slowly covered with a dark, viscous fluid that's starting to burrow into your skin. With an average song length of 20 minutes, it's got time to get in there pretty deep.

The biggest difference between White1 and the last one is the spoken-word-over-guitar "My Wall", composed and performed by Julian Cope - an epic ode to, basically, the two guys that make up this band, delivered by Hermes/Mercury, invoking ancient imagery at times, at others delving into bawdy rhymes (Old motherfucker, she was a cocksucker..."). Bizarre. This is metal? This is doom as written by a twisted Dr. Seuss. Pharmaceuticals were definitely at work here somewhere. "Stand in the thrall of [wailing] MY WALL!"

Once the big crazy poem is over, the band sort of finds a slow, steady beat somewhere within those fat, fuzzy guitar and bass chords. Sunn0)))'s songs are like thick tapestries made of blacks and browns and purples, shot through with thin filaments of tinsel-like feedback. Sunn0))) will drain the heat from your soup and cause your milk to congeal. It will give your pets dreams about being chased by huge rabbits. Sunn0))) will probably smoke all your weed. Not for everyone, but if you are a fan of doom, you gotta check this shit out.
