Two-member garage rock bands are certainly a hot commodity nowadays; however if you're talking about Sluts of Trust, you'd be mistaken to compare them to White Stripes.Having said that, though, there is a similarity in that the guitar and drumming duo carry forward the tradition of taking blues and punk into an pseudo-avant-garde terrain that's paradoxically void of the pomp and elitism of, say, the independent rock or emo scenes.
Importantly, you may be inquiring as to the actual musical validity of the two-piece...since they're merely a two-piece band. The band does flesh out their songs, formidably so, and they understand the art of creating space within the notes and arrangements. A vastly different band stylistically they are (I'm trying to win Jedi Knight points from Yoda), but Immolation instantly came to mind in that they understand the musical value and power that silence can have.
Sluts of Trust are a filthy band that scrapes the sewers and brothels without shame. Listening to We Are All Sluts of Trust is like opening up a good old Bukowski book.
The adventurous spirit is admirably present, and delightful in its execution, but the ideas are clearly limited in scope.
I do enjoy this release as a starting point from which the band may build something significant. And there you have it. Take it for what it's worth.
Their mommas might tell them they're special, but they only do that because they love them.
