I have been slapped around with a newfound liking for Rotten Sound after repeatedly listening to Murderworks. I have to say that when I witnessed their live act at Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in Helsinki in 2001, I was not greatly impressed with them. Despite the fact that their vocalist was painted entirely red, and they had 666 shirts on, I still felt as if I were in a cheesy horror movie. Well, I must have been either too annihilated or too stupid to focus on their talent, because Rotten Sound is another classic example of the excellence that emanates from Finland. I do not know what lurks in the waters of "The Land of a Thousand Lakes," but the water feeds this country's ability to exhibit some of the best bands within the scene today. Considering they have been around since 1993 releasing a number of EP's and singles, I really had not gotten into Rotten Sound until Still Psycho came out in 2000. Even though Still Psycho portrayed a bit too much Hardcore sway for my taste, I have followed Rotten Sound ever since, and really was interested in hearing another release by them.

Moving along, Kai Hahto, or ''K,'' is one of the most devastatingly gifted drummers to come out of Finland, and has a very refined style indeed. His blasts are incredibly precise, not to mention he utilizes an outrageous amount of speed. I freaked myself out while listening to them at a high volume. They possess such treacherous velocity that they remind me of Napalm Death and The Crown. Murderworks seems to have a little bit of everything thrown into it, influence wise. I would say this album focuses more towards pure Grindcore, which keeps things easy. There are hardly any slower-paced or breakdown areas to this album. It maintains a consistent speed that is unrelenting on the eardrums. Vocals range from highs to mid-lows; they do have variety when it comes to vocals. Their album artwork is plain, and the content is to be expected from a Grind album=gore (the title is suggestive enough, I would say, concerning artwork). Song titles are limited to one word, which I like. Rotten Sound has skill in this genre of Metal, and their bloody passion comes out on Murderworks. I anticipate seeing them live once again, so I might appreciate their obvious talent as I place them on a higher pedestal.
