This CD is exactly why I have come to hate the term "Melodic Hardcore." Why do all these "melodic" hardcore bands have singers that sound like the vocalist for Coalesce? Why do they all have these pop-punk riffs with whiny, flat singing that drop into single-note breakdowns? This form was entertaining when it first started gaining steam, but now the labels are just recycling these bands. I know the singing makes it marketable, but that's not what hardcore was supposed to be. This music is supposed to be balls to the wall. It should have the intensity of a bull run. Melodic is a term that better fits metal and ballads. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I liked when hardcore was hard, and I really liked it when it wasn't a fashion show. This CD is like Good Charlotte claiming to be punk. I really hope these bands can look back and see what hardcore was and rekindle that spirit. If you really want Hardcore check out Ringworm, Integrity, Bane, Embrace Today, Terror, One King Down or The Hope Conspiracy - if you already listen to these bands then there's no need to bother with The Rescue.
