Imagine listening to a mixed tape of Ripping Corpse, Human Remains and Dillinger Escape Plan songs, while taking a Calculus final exam and having the instructor continually smack you in the head with a ruler. Then one begins to understand the experience of Psyopus' debut album. Yes, your brain will get an intense workout of "math grind" and that is a very good thing. This is definitely not something you will grasp on the first listen. Heck, it may take you ten or more spins before you even understand the madness that guitarist Chris Arp has crafted. Not being a musician I have no idea how the man's fingers don't fall off after playing this. There are numerous moments of sheer brilliance littered throughout this opus (pun intended) before madness erupts into a backwards grind of drums, screams, and techno guitar wails. Don't be so quick to write this band off as total wankery. With some time and maturity one can only begin to imagine the arrangements this band can create. For those of you who found this band intriguing, I have a FREE copy of this CD to giveaway to the first person who sends me an email with their mailing address.
