This album is like a doughnut, it's magical. The foundation for this band is, without a doubt, classic punk. The music has a base intensity even though the guitar distortion hasn't been cranked to eleven, and here and there the band uses sprinkles of indie-rock sensibility to keep things interesting. They also have a keyboardist, who adds a nice finishing layer, hitting up what the guitar players can't get to. Then, there is the vocalist, who just screams his head off. It's a total offset to the music and it takes a minute to accept. Once the vocals have been accepted it becomes easy to see why they chose to have straight hardcore screaming with such classic sounding music; these vocals push the intensity level of the music way up. Without the singer it's enough to get you grooving, in the way rock music should, but with the screaming this band will get you to tear someone's face off.So looking back at the doughnut analogy, the punk influence is the doughnut, classic and plain. The vocals are the frosting; a new flavorful introduction to something old. And the splashes of indie-rock coupled with the keyboards are the sprinkles, adding color and charm.
