Killjoy & Co. return with their first full length after their masterpiece, The Divine Art Of Torture. Helped out by Kawashima-san from the Japanese band SIGH, Necrophagia's newest release continues to solidify the band's evolution from horror curiosity to serious purveyor of metal. Oh sure, I've always liked this band, but they've matured in such a way that I'm now continuously excited for each and every release.

I will have to be honest right out of the gate, however. This album isn't moving me as much as the previous Divine Art did, and I did have a bit of jones fix when they came out with the excellent EP Goblins Be Thine, so it's not like I was chomping the bit for this record. But this remains a quality record that holds my attention throughout the entire running time, even if the haunted carnival keyboards are a little overdone. These sounds are not unwelcome, in fact I think they are essential for this band's trademark sound, they just seem to have too prominent a position on this release.

But aside from that little pet peeve, this album is a logical progression from their recent material, which keeps me as happy as a little girl. The production in raw, but clear, making the freakshow that is this band all the creepier, like the sideshow carnival in which something goes horribly, horribly wrong. The band remain serious about songwriting, something they've improved tenfold on their last few releases, which has put them in a class of their own in the horror/death genre. One word review: Creepy.
