Naglfar - yes, a ship built from the nails of dead men, according to Nordicfolklore. Excellent Swedish metal here, you choose black or death; there's a zigzag between the two. A severe evil resonance is present with specific musical traits teetering on the black side. Raised not far from the Arctic Circle (sounds appealing), these lads have produced a dark and deadly effort which American bands wish to replicate. An early effort, Vittra, features a poisonous blend of black metal and was recorded in Peter Tagtgren's Abyss Studio. In the business for a decade, the band finally broke soil in our homeland courtesy of my friends at Relapse Records. Their latest effort is via Century Media Records. Ex Inferis, an EP, a very powerful release, contains two new songs as well as a cover of the legendary Massacre track "Dawn of Eternity" and two songs from the When Autumn Storms Come 7 inch. These songs are well structured and are not monotonous or repetitious. Omnipresent interludes of melodic metal even nudge their way into a few of the musical compositions featuring keyboards and strings. Everything you desire from this genre is placed before the thrown, intense speed, technical riffing, tormented screams and fiery blast beats. Naglfar are finishing the recording of their next release, Sheol, a very evil and promising effort, according to my sources. The band has completed successful tours with Deicide, Six Feet Under and Brutal Truth. Cast thy spell and envision the violent brilliance "Of Gorgons Spawned through Witchcraft," and the epilogue track, a sonic tapestry from the "Brimstone Gate." Gaze into the fires of hell, drink the blood from the devil's well while you embrace Naglfar's diabolical musical entity. This is a technically proficient release for the discriminating buyer.
