Finland's Mors Principium Est established themselves in 1993, what they were thinking with the name selection is anyone's guess. The first demo was completed in 2000 which caught the interest of Listenable Records. Two demos later and a few live performances followed before the three album deal was done in 2002. The debut was recorded at Finland's notable Tico-Tico Studios in December 2002. Initially, the music was categorized as melodic death-metal and the was promoted as ten tracks that kill, which isn't far from the mark considering the genre. However, you know - kill and melodic death metal don't exactly get along in the same sentence.

International music critics have hailed the band courtesy of Inhumanity. Comparisons fly through the air for example Soilwork (boring!) and Children of Bodom (who cares?) but this really does the band no justice in regards to their creative style and exceptional segues between both the slow and heavy passages. Most notable are the well constructed riffs courtesy of a twin guitar attack, balanced well through exceptional drumming.

The solo guitar work, improvisation, and sweeping passages are a notable reminder of the power of music. For example, "Eternity's Child" introduces subtle keyboards and atmospheric elements into the background and the title track demonstrates the bands ability to fluently construct inspiring metal scores. The epilogue "Into Illusion" is in fact illusory, slowly building through a ballad based opening with crescendos and vocal harmonies, ultimately yielding a magnificent piece of musical art.

Rhythmically speaking Mors Principium Est molds dark tranquil passages within metal tinged melodic (heavy) masterpieces. The production is simply over the top, another example of what American studios are incapable of replicating.

Overall, the band delivers ten captivating metal tracks and their fresh sound will no doubt emerge within the new album (2005) Unborn. The band has proven the ability to produce a diversified record that truly defies comparison-duly noted.
