Dark, mysterious, and unpredictable - these are a few words describing Mistelstein I have come up with, after listening to Divine.Desecrate.Complete. While they seem to be very good at playing music in general, they failed to impress me all that much with their overpowering Immortal sound. By no means is this band distinctive amongst the swarms of Black Metal bands in the European scene today. But, they are a Black Metal band that has made a fairly good impression on the scene as a whole, with attempting to reform an earlier style of Black Metal.

I do agree with other critics that this band grows upon your metal innards slowly, with each listen. The first time around, I simply put Misteltein on the bottom of my list. But, with many more listens during morning traffic, Divine. Desecrate. Complete. moved its way up on my frequently changing categorization of Metal. Tempo discrepancy and unorthodox riffs are this band's trademarks. Involuntary dominance explains the vocals extremely well; they are very much similar to Abbath of Immortal's vocals. While listening to the album, Misteltein first reminded me of Marduk's, Panzer Division Marduk, with their relentless speed attacks. The first 4 tracks of D.D.C. are an all out assault, then the tracks begin to slow down a bit - enriched with a nice blend of melody. The entire album is relatively fast paced, but D.D.C. does have its slower moments, which keeps things flowing.

If you admire Marduk, Dissection, and Immortal for their contribution to the character of Black Metal, then check out Misteltein for your own benefit. They continue the ritual of bringing murderous Metal across the Atlantic. Do not be left in the dark!
