  • Abyss's Review:
I've been waiting for this one for a while. I've only had two experiences with this band so far. The first was when I was handed their debut album, and immediately fell in love with it. The second was when I saw them at the Metal Meltdown III last year. That, unfortunately, made it harder for me to return to the record, because their live act was so adrenaline-filled that the album felt like regression.

Now it's payoff time... and what do they give me? Five tracks... the whole disc is about 15 minutes long. I'm crushed. Not that the music isn't up to snuff, mind you. This thing rips into your ears from the get-go, a sonic chisel cracking open your skull. This record hits in much the same way Lamb of God's last one did, but the songs are much shorter and have bit more grind layered throughout them.

This band can write, that's for sure, as every song gets your head bobbing and makes you want to break things. It does seem a little more straightforward than their last album, and it's actually possible to follow along with the lyrics (as long as you have a lyric sheet... this wasn't possible on the first record, as most of the lyrics sounded like, "blah, blah, blah" in a deep growl). Production values seem a bit better here as well, which makes their more straightforward attack a little disappointing. But the five gems on this EP quickly make up for that, my early favorite being the closer, "The Tide."

Great new metal that only has one drawback: it's frustrating that it's so short. Someone push these guys back into the studio. Till then... enjoy.
