Signature tracks: Track 2, 6, 7, and 8.When I think of Denmark, many things come to mind. I think of Balladry, impressive Scandinavian authors, and Illdisposed.
Illdisposed is one band that owns the scene. Tremendous, over-the-top talent is what makes Illdisposed who they are as a band, but yet they still seem unexplainably unknown within the scene. I was turned on to Illdisposed about 4 years ago, and ever since that day (which I will never forget) they have been my all time favorite Death Metal band - and I think that Illdisposed simply does not get the type of exposure they deserve (mostly in the U.S.A.) These Danes have been playing melodic, technical, and intense Death Metal for over 10 years now, and their countless releases are always marvelous - never once have I been dissatisfied. 1-800-Vindiction is yet another perfectly crafted example of the talent these guys exert on each album, which makes each release an epic masterpiece in my eyes. And since I am half Danish, I have another (however biased) reason why I love these dudes so much . . .
On a side note - this short paragraph is directed to anyone who is reading this, and has never heard of Illdisposed: 'You are an idiot, and I am extremely ashamed and disgusted that you are even breathing my air . . . so either go kill yourself, or go pick up any Illdisposed album. And even though you are a buffoon, I will still take some precious time to recommend some albums for you: Submit, There is Something Rotten in the State of Denmark, Kokaiinum, Helvede, and their new one, 1-800-Vindiction.'
Getting back to the review - Jakob is a fucking genius. There simply is no other way to describe this guy. He is masterful, and adds astonishing melodic breakdowns and incredible solos to his compositions. He is like an elf making goodies . . . (although, I am not sure what the story is with Tore Pimp Mogensen). The vocals, courtesy of Bo Summer, are what I love second best about this band. Bo predominantly belts out deep, rough vocals, with a touch of clean here and there; but not deep in a Disgorge type of way. Illdisposed takes a classic, older form of Death Metal, and molds it into something fresh, borderline progressive (for Death Metal anyway), and groove-laden-all under a belt of ballistic brutality. (If all this sounds weird or confusing, just note that they stay the hell away from Hardcore).
Unfortunately, Illdisposed has never been given the opportunity to tour the States; however, they have made it around Europe quite a bit. My highest hope for them is that they make it to the States, prove they're METAL, and make many long-lasting fans. I am hoping to see them play, possibly in Copenhagen, when I move to Lund, Sweden in June. That would fucking own!
Over the past 10 years, Illdisposed have reshaped Denmark with malicious Metal, now it is their turn to live and breathe success.
