Looking at the glut of backlogged review material surrounding me, I decided I couldn't stand it anymore - it was time to take matters into my own hands once again and just write reviews of whatever may come to hand from various piles around my office. God Forbid's latest was on the top of the nearest pile, and since it has been bothering me forever that I haven't found time to listen to it, in it went. The band has a video or two out and in rotation on the various metal video shows, and I've even seen them live since this was released, so I was already familiar with a couple of the tracks. But one of the interesting things about God Forbid is that they have one of those sounds that you would recognize anywhere. You instantly know that it is God Forbid. That's mostly a good thing, except when I'm trying to remember which song came from what album...
I've been a fan of this band for a long time and there is not a thing on this record that would change my opinion of them. It is a crime that so many medio-core bands are achieving such astounding success (*cough*Trivium*cough*) while a talented metalcore band like God Forbid can languish on the fringes. These guys are the real deal and deserve to reap the benefit of the current mainstream obsession with crappy medio-core bands. Talk 'em up to your friends, pick up the album, and show up at every show they play - they are definitely one of the best live bands out there.
