Most people can only take power metal in small doses. Me, hell...I love it. I blame the cheese factor. Or the RPG's I played as a teen. Or my lack of sex. *cough* I'm just kidding...I don't think power metal is cheesy. So anyways! Moving on to Falconer (as opposed to the other Falconer that lets you sink in a pile of quicksand whilst getting drunk and into bar fights). If you like your power metal as triumphant as the lightning of Thor, you've come to the right place. Falconer's album The Scepter of Deception is full of sugary-power goodness, incorporating a little bit of prog and lots of folk into an accessible package for those not ashamed to listen. The album has its ups and downs, with less of the latter. Some tracks slow the pace down a bit whilst others drive. "The Scepter of Deception," the title track and my favorite by far, smokes.Unfortunately, I'm too spoiled by Blind Guardian and Dragonforce that I'm in stalemate with myself as to giving this four or five skulls. In contrast, I think there were a few vocal choirs and flutes missing from this release. For now I'll go with four because I think something is missing. But damn, what fine power metal.
