Up-tempo, melodic, and breakdowns. This CD by Eyes of the Betrayer is a definite portrayal of the hardcore music scene merging with their arch-nemesis, the metal scene. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but this band has more metal traits than they do hardcore ones. With this established, most of the music is in the vein of Shadows Fall, Darkest Hour, etc., with vocals that range from Behemoth's newest album to a high pitch rasp. The band pulls it off for the most part; they keep it tight and energetic. There are certain points where it feels just a little too slow, but this is understandable because the breakdowns would sound out of place if the tempo changed too dramatically. Really, the only bit of hardcore that this band sticks with is the gang vocals, and they've managed to work them in so they fit well with this more metal atmosphere.Unless someone who has never heard this type of music before gets this CD I don't think it will be a life changing experience. For the most part it's a solid CD, the only thing throwing it off are perhaps the singing parts, which really don't sound all that pleasant. But these are spaced few and far between so they are forgettable.
