It's way too easy these days for an album to completely fall off the radar and get lost in the CD collection (let alone receive multiple spins), for me to gauge it properly. This is exactly the case here. I had listened to it 2-3 times, didn't give it too much thought and there it sat. Fast forward 9 months and I see they are on the upcoming Morbid Angel tour. Being the way that I am, I always like to know as much about every band on the lineup before a show to maximize my enjoyment (or know if I should get there late). When what to my wondering ears do I hear? A pretty enjoyable deathcore Cryptosy / Suffocation of six Canuck-ears (with a nod to Clement Clarke Moore). I'm not one who generally cares for hardcore at all, but these chaps pull it off. Dual vocals, a nice mix of death metal, grind hardcore breakdowns. I reluctantly use the term "hardcore breakdowns" since I'm not sure why it has become so in vogue these days. When bands in the early 90's had mosh riffs, no one bitched and moaned about it being hardcore. Anyway, these parts are used appropriately and to maximum effect without becoming redundant. So if you are the ultra picky sort or the 17 year old who just got into extreme music two years ago and think you are "keeping it real" by slagging every band that sells more than 10 CDs, you shouldn't have too much to complain about.
    4 out of 5
