Here we have Deivos blasting out seven tracks of Polish Death Metal. Five tracks are new and two come from previous demos. Now, just about every Polish Death metal band sounds more or less the same, but I have yet to get sick of the style so I can't say that this is a bad thing. Vader, Decapitated, Behemoth, Yattering - each band has minor differences but they all can be relied upon to release some awesome kick ass death metal. Deivos is no exception. Following the formula of their ancestors, tech riffage sweep picking, blast beat drumming, and loud indecipherable vocals make for a catchy album overall. Add some slightly funky bass lines to that mix and you've got Deivos. Even the promo material is full of poor English grammar, which is always enjoyable. The two tracks come off the 1999 demo Praised By Generations, and they are basically a less produced version of the previous five tracks. Clearly the band has been competent since their inception and the lean production is actually a welcome change of pace from the squeaky clean openers. I even liked the switch to drum machine these last two tracks employed. I don't know what it is, but whenever a band includes their demos in an album, I end up preferring the raw sound found on the demo tracks.
In all there is nothing essential about this release, but if you can't wait for the next Decapitated album and Behemoth's latest is getting a little tired, this one will certainly quench your appetite for generic, but ass-kicking, death metal.
