Two words: Machine Head. That's the best and most succinct fashion to describe this debut album from The Defaced. If you liked Machine Head, in their pre-rap state, then you will probably enjoy Domination Commence, to a point. Unfortunately, The Defaced haven't reached the level of the band that created Burn My Eyes in their prime, but they are pretty damn good for a first-album band. What they lack in originality is almost made up in musical ability.

I don't know what the point is in going on with this. I mean, if you have heard Burn My Eyes or The More Things Change... you will recognize this as an eerily spot-on, albeit slightly watered-down, imitation of those albums.

Domination Commence is not offensive or unenjoyable by any means. As I said the musicians are very good, and the production value on this album is high. But The Defaced just don't have the hypnotically raw power of their idols (I don't even know if they admit to this), and even if they did, what would be the point? The mighty MH has already been there, done that, and fallen in the course of it. Why repeat history?
