Abyss' Review:
Yeah I know what you're thinking. Jesus shouldn't this have been done like two and a half years ago? Well Hel was nice enough to send me the DVD (I had previously only had it on VHS), so when she told me to write something about it, I thought it was the least I could do.This video was basically just a showcase for CoF getting into the video realm with a promotional video for "From The Cradle To Enslave". It contains two versions of the song, a full length one which is more violent and contains nudity, and an abridged version that they probably hoped would land on MTV. Of course, the latter never happened, but the band did get signed with Sony, and this video might have helped in that regard.
The video itself is awesome, especially the uncensored one. It contains vile and disturbing imagery, not to mention hundreds of gallons of blood. Let's face it, if there is any band that transcribes to video well, it's Cradle of Filth. In retrospect I enjoy this promotional video much more than those found on Heavy, Left-Handed, and Candid, as this one seems better thought out and has a more transparent theme, instead of just image upon image. You gotta love the scene when the violinists are slicing their wrists... hell it's almost poetic.
This video also has a little 'making of' which is interesting mostly because they knew not to make it too long. It's only about twenty minutes and just when it starts to drag it's pretty much over. It does let you in on the humor of the band a little, and it makes them come across as a fun bunch of blokes. The remainder of the video is concert footage. It shows their impressive stage show from the Cruelty and the Beast tour. This is definitely worth it for the die hard fan, but as impressive as their stage show is, seeing it in you living room is nothing compared to the live experience. Bottom line is that it is a lot of fun, but as far as DVDs go, this one is a little short on content compared to most of the ones that are coming out now. One word review: Cool.
