I have to admit that the last Boris album I received didn't get the best review. I'm not sure if this album is better, or I've become more tolerant, or my brain damage has progressed to the point that I really like droning, vacuum cleaner sounds... well, it's probably a combination of the three. Two major differences between Amplifier Worship and Absolutego: this new one has more than one track and occasionally uses vocals. In Japanese, of course - mostly screamed. The title of this album describes the contents very well. For those of you who have not heard Boris before, their music consists in the most part of using guitar effects on sustained chords and just savoring the hypnotic sound of it. Slow, plodding doom, Boris is not a band to dance to, but pop a couple Ativan and you've got yourself a party. Once in a while Boris maintains a steady beat, but don't wait for them to "kick in" - it's not going to happen. In fact, the last track is nothing more than minute upon minute upon minute of thrumming buzz. Actually, there's a SUN machine in the back office making a very similar noise; whereas we're planning on junking the computer if it doesn't shut up, I embrace the same sound when it's coming from Boris. Weird.
By the way, Southern Lord, I was disappointed to find out that I missed out on the special first pressing with a lime green case and gummy worm enclosed in the spine... hint hint.
