Homegrown in Wisconsin, Bongzilla is ready to roll with their freshly burned release Gateway. This album is packed to the brim with smokin' stoner anthems that will make anytime seem like four-twenty. Take a deep breath, and get ready to inhale one monster hit after another. Ganja gurus, Bongzilla are back and they are positively better than ever.Full of fire and not to mention THC, Bongzilla originated during the middle '90's. The have a stoner-rock-metal sound that is quite remarkable, but they are not another Kyuss or Queens of the Stone Age. The vocals are not common for the average stoner rock band. In fact, they are quite metal sounding. The vocals fit well with the heaviness of the rhythm guitar, and they add a nice balance to the funkiness of the lead guitars. The drummer's style could be described as somewhat alternative, but mostly it is very classic heavy rock sounding. Combined with slow and deep bass lines, you get this crazy, mind-blowing rhythm that makes each song stick in your head for days (even if your memory isn't that great from all that tokin' up).
With song names such as "Greenthumb," "666lb. Bongsession" and "Hashdealer" it is obvious that these guys don't mess around when it comes to weed. The album cover depicts this ridiculous demon with a huge glass bong, and each song's lyrics are full of references to the magical green plant. There's no doubt in my mind that if you love Mary Jane you'll definitely love Bongzilla. So pick it, pack it, and fire it up, Bongzilla is surely worth putting in your pipe and smoking.
