Death's Review (1/22/06):
The reunion of the classic Anthrax lineup has been more controversial than might have been expected. In my opinion rightfully so. I am a John Bush fan, and I was just plain skeptical of everyone's motives and intentions with respect to this reunion. Sure, it was a cash-in. But still, it does give younger fans a chance to see a classic metal lineup reform and bang out hits from the glory days. So while I wish we still had the John Bush fronted Anthrax intact, I was still curious enough to just say fuck it, and have a good time checking out the reunion show that played the Key Club last Spring. I had fun, went backstage and talked about the Revenge of the Sith which had opened that day. All in all a fun night.Unleashed in the East or Live After Death), but the sound is good enough, the songs are proficiently performed enough, and Belladonna sounds good enough to keep the thing going and make it a pleasant enough listening experience for the hardcore fan. The set list throws out a few interesting gems, like "A.I.R." and "Madhouse" back to back, some of Belladonna's best singing from the Spreading the Disease album, and later-era Belladonna deep cuts like "In My World" and "Be All, End All." But you know, it is otherwise pretty much standard-issue mandatory reunion lineup live album material. Bottom line: worth your time if you are really into Anthrax and a fun way to rehear some of your favorite classics, but by no means essential. Catch 'em live instead.
