Straight forward, to-the-point, no frills rock. This description is vague enough that you may have images of greats like the Stones or not so greats like 3 Doors Down. In this case, Alston can be lumped in the not so great pile.

If you can imagine the watered down, third rate stylings of 3 Doors Down, Submersed or other bands of this nature, water it down some more and you'll have Alston. The "hooks" are obviously tailored for radio airplay, but rather than being unforgettable, they ever so quickly slip through one ear and out the other.

The highlight of the CD, if there can be such a thing within a lackluster platter of musical emptiness, is definitely the cover of Billy Idol’s "Rebel Yell." When your best song is a cover, however, it's got to make you wonder why you're not in a cover band at the local bar.

The acoustic closing number "Voodoo for Fun and Profit" rounds out the CD as unspectacularly as it began. Alston has no direction or musical cohesiveness whatsoever. I don't anticipate that will change.

I've never done this before, but Alston definitely deserves no skulls. I would give them a negative skull if I were able to. Rock music fans, please save your money for Queens of the Stone Age.
