Is it me or has Massachusetts been a metal hotbed lately? All That Remains is no exception. ATR was once the side project for vocalist Philip Labonte, who at that time fronted the now well known metal up and comers, Shadows Fall. After leaving the shadows, Philip has stepped into the light of All That Remains. In an effort to spread the word, ATR has played in the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and countless other east coast gigs.

Enough of the dirt, let's hear what ATR really has to say... Out of the gate the title track takes me back. I haven't heard soloing like this in ages. It has a real old school ambience that blends elements of thrash, prog and death metal sub-genres. The drum solo in "Follow" just blew my mind, courtesy of Michael Bartlett! These guys fucking rock! All the worn out clichés apply: machine gun drumming, lightning fast riffing... just listen to "One Belief." True masters of the lost art of windmilling, ATR brings to life a fabled past with two pronged guitar virtuosity amidst some very scary death metal vocals. Philip barks out hearty cookie monster bites best compared to Max in his Sepultura days. Hmmm... Beneath the Remains... All That Remains... coincidence? You be the judge!

Behind Silence and Solitude is sure to please most metalheads that actually lived through the growth of metal's roots in the 80's and now have short hair and waste their day away in some cubicle as life passes them by. But I digress... This CD is worth its weight in gold as far as nostalgia is concerned. ATR manages to breathe new life into timeless chords, so get your ass down to the record store and buy this! Or just order it online from the PC in your cubicle. Just get it!
