Musashi's Review:
I don't know why, but I had a good feeling about this CD from the moment I picked it up. It does not look especially exciting, but there was definitely a good vibe coming off of it. I was pleased that my perceptions were justified. This is a good CD.It is hard to know what bands to compare Zeroed to. They are definitely death metal, but they have some elements of thrash and melodic metal thrown in for good measure. They have influences from Napalm Death to Kreator to God Dethroned to Nile to Sepultura to Slipknot. They are all over the board. Nonetheless the have a solid sound that is their own. At times they sound fairly generic, but then they will throw some spice into the mix with some interesting instrumental sections.
Unfortunately, I am in a rush to write this review otherwise, I would spend some more time with this CD and see what happens when it grows on me. Regardless, I am going to spin this a few more times after the review is written because I am intrigued enough to keep from tossing this right in the trash.
As for my first impressions, I must say that they are good. If I had to complain about one thing, I would say that they could remix this. The mix is a little flat and the vocals are too loud at times. A brighter, more dynamic mix would definitely help this band and make the music come alive.
Other than that, this CD is pretty damn good. I like that Zeroed has a good feel for writing songs. They draw influences from different places and put them together very cleanly. Zeroed is not locked into any particular formula. The eight songs on the CD are different enough that you can tell them apart, yet they retain the feel of the band. This shows a level of maturity rarely found on a first CD. In fact, I started out by giving the CD four skulls but by the end I am convinced this is a five skull CD. Zeroed really have left very little room for improvement. This is one of those rare demos that I will probably listen to again... for my own enjoyment.
