Blind's Review:
Yo, these vocals are straight up ass. Seriously. If I cared enough, I’d dig up my Blood Feast CD case. I guess Adam Tranquilli was in that group, and this demo’s tray card states that he is on vocals. I say “if I cared enough” because I could confirm that he is in fact the throat of Blood Feast. (I don’t though. Blood Feast was pretty poor, so I don’t know where I put the case.) Neverthless, I listened to parts of the CD (I ripped it), and it sure as hell sounds like him.
As I said, the vocals blow. Blood Feast is thrash. Tranquilli sounds okay there. Without End is more like modern-day Slayer (especially Diabolus in Musica). It’s kind of thrashy, but has some elements of nu-metal in it. Those kinds of wannabe vocals just don’t work here. (Think of the vocalist from Hammerfall trying to cover vocals from, say, 40 Below Summer. Wouldn’t work there; doesn’t work here.)
The production is okay on this disc. The drums drown out the guitars, but unfortunately, the hideous vocals are nice and loud for purposes of punishing me and anyone else unfortunate enough to listen to this.
I hate to keep harping on it, but the vocals really ruin this album. There are some growls here and there that sound really good - in place with the music. The songs are well-written and one can easily headbang to them. Unfortunately, you can’t concentrate on that because some jackoff keeps whining into the mic.
Can you tell this aggravates me?
I swear, the guy almost sounds like David Spade (the pencilneck comedian) trying to sound angry. It’s so bad it’s almost funny.
That settles it. 1 skull. Ditch these horrific pipes, fix the production, and add about seven songs (there are only three here) and I would amp it up a few notches. But this caterwauling is simply unacceptable.
