Ember's Review:
Formed in Helsinki, Finland, Wave is a pop-rock-metal band that started in 1999, and their new two-song demo is called See-through Hearsay. This is Wave's third release to date. They have previously recorded a demo Burning the Bridges and they have also had a song released on Uplift Records' Uplifter 3 compilation.Wave's style is more rock than pop, but they still have that tinge of commercial friendliness to their music. Both songs on this demo are about 3-5 minutes long, and they are written like most average commercial pop-rock songs (i.e. verse-chorus-verse, plenty of power chords, "crazy" solo towards the end of the song, etc.). This not ground breaking new material, but it is pretty good for the style that they are trying to play.
I would have to say that my favorite element of Wave is the drum style. The drummer's sound truly fits the rock-metal aspect of the band. His playing heavy, but also very clean. I also like the female vocals, but I do think that her voice would be more fitting with a doom-oriented band. The guitars and bass are also pretty good. The only thing I could say about them is the fact that they are so "average." I like to hear new sounds and melodies, instead of the same cliché power chord filled rock songs.
Overall, I did think that this was a pretty good demo. The production was good compared to most demos I have heard in the past, and the length was perfect, too. You get the basic idea of what the band is trying to do without having it be overkill. I would recommend it if you are into pop rock/metal. This just might be right up your alley.
