Equinox's Review:
Voodoo Temple have sent along their ten song demo CD entitled Vessel of Wrath. From the beginning of the first track, this band exhibits two very strong and obvious influences, and, in the interest of not mentioning these influences (as millions of other reviewers do every day), I will simply refer to them as "S" and "M." The music on Vessel of Wrath is heavily influenced by both of these bands, and this point is supported by vocalist Mike Mariotti's singing, which is a 50/50 mix of T.A. and J.H.As the CD progresses, with the exception of a few short intros, the songs just seem to blend into one another, never really catching the attention of the listener. The drumming is good, and some of the occasional "rock n' roll" parts are actually played with conviction, but the majority of the material here has been heard a thousand times before. All of the chugging, stop/start riffs and song arrangements just sound ordinary. Nothing really stands out as the best or worst track; the songs all share a similar emptiness.
To top it off, many will agree, ten songs are just far too many for a demo CD, no matter how good the band is. In the case of Voodoo Temple, even if the band had cut this one down to the best three or four songs I think the result would have been just as bland. Voodoo Temple may eventually find a more original and enjoyable sound, but there is none of that feeling on Vessel of Wrath.
