  • Ember's Review:
Transient is a three-piece band from Massachusetts that has unleashed the most ridiculous, tripped-out, space rock to ever be heard. Their demo consists of five amazing songs, one of which is their "One Riff Jam", and the other being a crazy noise session entitled "Evanescence". That track is one of my favorites because it brings out their ability to take you to a completely different level of high. To get the full effect of everything they have to offer you should definitely toke up, grab an ice-cold beer, and let Transient take you for a ride.

Tim, the vocalist and guitarist, is a stoner who has a remarkable voice for this style of music, and his guitar skills are equally astounding. Scott, the bassist, has only been playing bass since he joined Transient, but has found a definite talent within. He previously played guitar for the Massachusetts based metal/hardcore band Overcast, and the even more old-school hardcore band Dive. Brian is Shadows Fall's front man, and he was also the singer of Overcast, but as the drummer of Transient he is truly something completely different. His drum style is powerful, yet still simple, and it is unique enough to set itself apart from the rest.

Each element of Transient is equally as talented and important, but as a whole they are that much more ridiculous. They have an amazing sense of communication while they jam that allows then to play song after song without speaking a single word. The sound quality is amazing, and that goes for the production as well. Zeuss recorded the demo at Planet Z this past January, and I think he did them so much justice. Honestly this is the closest possible thing to actually being in their jam spot.

If I had to compare them to anything else it would have to be either Spiritualized or Pink Floyd on triple the amount of hallucinogens. They have the same airy and trippy qualities that any space rock band should have, but they take it one step further by adding heaviness and intensity that you wouldn't normally get within that genre of music. Every song is truly magnificent in it's own unrivaled way. This is the band that I always wish existed, but never did until now, and now that they are here I can't get enough. They are the most kick ass, non-metal band that is out there today. They have reinvented what was already great, and made it that much better.
