Jotun's Review:
The only meaningful part of this CD, both in the form of recorded material and liner notes is the final "thank you" in the CD jacket. It reads, "And very special thanks to God. Without you, everlasting war and hatred would not be possible."According to the small bio card that came with the CD, the Trench Coat Yuppies were formed on September 11, 2001 while "Trench" was glued to the television, realizing that "the world as we know it ended." While that is true, and many people thought differently after that day, evidentially the sarcasm and capitalism were the only things that struck these guys. Humility, common sense and - most importantly - talent, never made an impression.
This Is Next... resembles the early wanderings of middle school students picking up instruments for the first time and throwing together elementary riffs and musical thoughts. Trench Coat Yuppies try to throw a bit of aggression into the mix, but all the riffs are depressingly simple. The lyrical content and song titles attempt to mimic shock-metal bands like Anal Cunt, but they only come across as juvenile at best, and slightly offensive at worst. Take for instance song titles like "Florida Flying School" (with a poor attempt at a Middle Eastern/Islamic voice), "Why Am I 'So Brown?,' " "Anthrax Pretzel," and "Flight 666 - Boston To WTC."
This has already been a waste of time reviewing the Trench Coat Yuppies. What's the best part? Now I have an extra jewel case for when I accidentally drop one of my quality CDs.
