  • Blind's Review:
This band has cool ass logo art. That's a good start.
They also have a very professional looking and sounding CD - again, avoiding demerits.
    Nice looking web site? Check.
Band members look like Vikings? That's in order.

This band is off to a very good start. They are doing a lot of shows, they have opened for many big name bands (such as Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir, The Haunted, etc.), sold lots of CDs, and look to be on the path to success.

So, with all that being said, why the fuck hasn't somebody signed this band by now?

    I may have the answer.

Remember back in the day when Nirvana was unique? Nobody really sounded anything like them. Well, then you had bands like Bush, Cold, Creed, and ninety thousand other clone singers appear, plus the host of grunge copycats.

I think the latest formula people are copying is Shadows Fall. They are a pretty good band, and they are beginning to get some commercial success. First, some radio stations like WAAF played them, then they were on Headbanger's Ball, and now they are kicking ass at Ozzfest.

That's all well and good, but you know what happens when a "new" sounding band gets popular...

I think Summer's Dying is the latest in the line of clone bands. They sound an assload like Shadows Fall with a touch of Killswitch Engage. But I swear, if you took a listener unfamiliar with either band (Shadows Fall and Summer's Dying), and played a track from each back to back, said listener most likely wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Now, don't get me wrong. I like this band. (Hell, look at the skull rating.) It's just that it has zero to offer anybody looking for something distinctive (a problem that plagues every music genre considering the sheer number of bands out there). The riffs are well played and the songs are interesting. The production is good, and the group seems to be headed in the right direction.

But most of you who have become disillusioned with such things won't find anything of interest here.

I wouldn't rank this disc as high as I did if a major label had signed this band. But as a demo, it's damned fine, so I'd highly recommend it to most of you readers.

    Two word review: formulaic metal.
