  • Ember's Review:
Just when you thought there were enough bands named after seasons, Summer Dying appears out of nowhere. Well, not really out of nowhere, but close enough: these guys are from Lansing, Michigan. Strangely enough though, Summer Dying plays thrash metal with a hint of Gothenburg. I guess this style can come from anywhere. I just didn't expect it to come from Michigan.

This seven-song demo is packed with catchy and melodic guitar riffs, as well as some solos that are pretty good. There are also simple but well written bass lines, which compliment the guitar work nicely. The drums are appropriate for this style. They are melodic and heavy, and the cymbals are used to their advantage. Then comes my least favorite part. I feel bad even saying so because you can tell he tries, but it has to be the vocals. There are too many blood curdling screams and off key harmonies. Plus, the production isn't that great, so it sounds even worse.

All around I didn't really like this album. My main problem is, if the vocals aren't right I can't really listen to the rest. The band itself is good, but I don't think the singer can sing what they are trying to achieve. I tried to give it a fair shot, and all I got out of it was a reason to take an aspirin.
