    The name tells it all. Smoke is a stoner rock band. They have a ton of reviews that compare them to Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Danzig and Monster Magnet. I cannot say a whole lot that has not been said about Smoke.

    Smoke is the band that should be playing the bike rallys and should be featured in Easy Rider and High Times magazines. The music is thick and heavy and pentatonic. The musicianship is about what you would expect from a stoner band. The grooves are good. The music is simple. Some jamming but nothing special.

    The recording is okay: not great. The sound is muddy. Of course, for stoner rock, muddy is the goal. However, this type of muddy comes from not being able to capture any high end on your recording. It sounds like someone took the EQ and cut the trebble about half way...instant mud. Nonetheless, it is a solid three song demo.

    I like Smoke. I love their name. I like their music. Unfortunately, there is nothing about them that stands out and differentiates them from all the other stoner rock bands. With such a good name, I really wanted to put the CD in and be totally... well, smoked (actually, I was hoping to open the padded envelope and have some kind bud fall into my lap). Sadly, that did not happen. Smoke is a solid stoner rock band that I would probably enjoy live. The CD could also find its way into the CD player at a party. If you are a stoner rock fan, or just a stoner, then check out Smoke.
