Martyr's Review:
Sometimes I like demos that pass through my hands, but if not, once in a while I'll lay the sarcasm on a little heavy just for personal amusement. SkinKrawl is a band with the most creative and amazing name I have EVER heard, and they write music that is JUST as exceptional and thought-provoking. These strapping young lads are based out of New Orleans, Louisiana, mainly known for the drunken debauchery that takes place during the almighty Mardi Gras. Their self-titled, three track demo is definitely mosh-worthy for 16 year old scenesters who have a penchant for "picking up change" which ends up looking more like "throwing dirty laundry around" and other slick hardcore moves. All I really have to say about SkinKrawl's three stunning tracks is that it's a whirlwind of chugging nu-metal slam riffs that have no character or direction. The vocals are comprised of one guy with a screechy, hardcore vocal style and another dude singing in a wavery, whiny voice with equally horrible backup vocals. For a lack of better words, it's a mess with no defined structure. I would actually get into these guys if I had no idea what good music sounded like, and there are A LOT of those people out there, so knock yourselves out guys. As I'm writing this review, SkinKrawl is in the studio recording an album with John Tyree. He has produced albums by acts such as Slayer, STP and Rancid. A note to producers: please guide these "dime-a-dozen," angsty metal-core bands out of their miserable mediocrity. Enough said.
