Musashi's Review:
It's going, going....gone!!! It's a homerun! I reviewed Sift's last demo in November of 2000. Since then Sift has gone back in the studio and recorded another four song demo. The problems Sift had before with writing long boring songs have been fixed. The songs are shorter, tighter and really rock. They have polished their sound as well as honed their songwriting technique.Maybe it's not the most metal album I've ever heard, but it's heavy and it's good. It's more along the lines of Tool, Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots, than Slayer or Morbid Angel. That's okay because the mood is dark and the production is great. The songs are all very radio friendly, but not cheesy or lame. I know it's a good demo because after the four songs are over I still want to hear more.
Did I say the production was great? The drums sound powerful and big. The guitars sound thick and warm. The vocals are really present and in your face. They lead off with the best song "Collapse" which could go to radio right now as it is. The second song reminds me of STP off of Core...sort of a "Wicked Garden" type of feel. I really dig it. The vocals sound great. I don't remember Chris being such a powerful vocalist on the first demo. His voice is strong and commanding. He sings with power and feeling and on key (I wish I could say that about everyone).
I want to thank Sift for sending me this demo. I really like it. What are you waiting for? Go get a copy of this. Go support this band!
