Musashi's Review:
So the guys from Virginia Beach decided to send me another demo. I like it when people go for another bite at the apple. I think it is cool. Shows that they have balls and are persistant. I liked their last CD and was happy to see another demo from them.I obviously don't remember what their last CD sounded like, but I liked it enough to give it four skulls so it must have been pretty cool. This demo is pretty much a five skull demo right out of the box. The three songs are "Subliminal Envy," "Disconnect," and "Last Right." My only complaint is that I think Disconnect is the best song and should be first, but otherwise a great demo.
Their music is self-described as frantic noise. That is exactly what you get as soon as the CD starts. It takes me a few seconds to get my equilibrium as I am overpowered by the wall of sound that comes out of my speakers. Once I get my bearings, I find myself enjoying their high-energy caterwauling. These guys have found their niche; they like to go all out and play sick metal. Musically it's not as tight as I usually like it, but they are going for that frantic noise feel and that is exactly what you get. So I am pleased that they promise an uneasy feeling and they deliver it. This is the type of music where being a little loose is okay. There are no glaring mistakes, but it just isn't tight. That is acceptable. [A lot of people might think that I am saying it's okay to play out of time and out of tune. That's not what I'm saying. Sic Seed are in time and in tune. They are just playing really fast and a little bit sloppy. If they played everything cleanly and perfectly, we would have prog metal and not frantic noise. It's a stylistic difference not an excuse to play poorly. That doesn't mean you can throw away your metronomes!]
Sic Seed are just what they claim to be: a bunch of sick fuckers from Virginia that are trying to play some hard heavy shit to fuck with your earholes. The music is over the top and heavy and has good riffs. The drums are a million miles per hour. The singer sounds like he should be coughing up blood after every song. I feel they delivered 100% and that deserves five skulls. Now go sell some fucking records and play some tours.
