Musashi's Review:
Here is another demo that I picked up at the Metalfest. The Sic Seed guys just showed up to listen to metal and hand out demos and meet record industry people. Pretty cool, huh?Let's break this down piece by piece. I got a nice plastic bound letter and bio sheet some stickers and a CD. So far it looks pretty good. They wrote a nice letter but (and I know I'm being picky) it's not personalized. It would be a great letter to send to an actual record company person if they put that person's name at the top, but to just hand out to people I think it's weird. If I got that letter in the mail addressed to me, I would definitely think these guys are cool and listen to the CD, but to get it as just a form letter is kinda cheesy. I think they should have put together something catchy to hand out to people they meet in the bar and around the Metalfest.
What about the CD? It starts off with some sample from some movie. Hasn't this been done enough? I think the samples from B movies are overdone. I admit it's funny and clever (especially the Cheech & Chong sample), but I think it's getting old.
Their music is self described as FRANTIC noise. I don't know what that means. The first song has a techno dance feel to it. The second song is more what you would expect: thrashy. It's really heavy and pretty catchy. I think the song is called "Psychotic Bloodline." I like things spelled out for me and they don't really do a good job of letting me know what song is what. The rest of the songs all started to sound like generic thrashcore. Good but not great.
I checked out the website. It's ok. Not much there but you can hear one song over and over until you are forced to click off the page. Their website links to mp3.com where you can listen to most of these tracks and judge for yourself whether I'm missing the boat or not.
As a rule, I like these thrashy, "frantic" bands. I like the energy and speed. These guys aren't the most original, but they are pretty good. I would definitely watch a bunch of skateboarders wipe out to this CD. Overall, this is a good effort from Sic Seed. I expect more good things from these guys.
