Well, as the recent fugitive Varg Vikernes once said, “a demo is a demo,” so I will not have to go into this too in depth since after all it is out for the public to get an idea of the band’s sound. This week’s demo review is Sicknote, a band from Oulu, Northern Finland, that pretty much plays everything a 14-year-old United States mall kid would love.Right off the bat I can hear the drop D guitar tuning, which is a total turn off (unless it’s “Home” by Dream Theater). The vocals are a bit too Retro sounding (very 80’s rock), drumming is very simplistic and the guitar riffs are mediocre. I can imagine people who are into Disturbed, Godsmack, and other such lame, money making acts to get into Sicknote, for it says “MTV” right across their foreheads.
Overall, the execution of the songs is very clear and not sloppy at all, so I will give the demo a three - because of the fact that I was able to listen to this 3-song demo several times without laughing at it like Tiny Deaths by Rakoth.
