Musashi's Review:
I want to declare a ban on using the word "Shadow" in the name of your band. I think we've all had enough of that. It's as annoying as rock bands with the word "Crow," as in the Counting Black Sheryl Crows. Or "Blind" blues singers, as in Blind Lemon Jell-0 King.Shadows Eve cite influences such as old Metallica, Dio, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Arch Enemy and Nevermore. I figured that I was going to get some good, old-school metal, but what I got was merely old sounding. Having a band with two brothers in it must have its advantages. Look at Van Halen and AC/DC. Like other brother bands, Shadows Eve is tight. The brothers lock in perfect synchronicity with each other. It's very cool.
The recording is good for a demo. The main problem is that the mix is a little flat sounding. It could use some more sparkle. The high end is just dead. Therefore, the snare doesn't snap, the guitars don't crackle and the vocals don't pop. It sounds to me like a bandwidth problem. Either they were using cheap mics or a cheap recorder or both. Getting some better gear next time will definitely pay off.
These two brothers are very proficient musicians. I think William can almost pull off singing, but I would recommend finding someone else if they are going to continue to "sing" as opposed to growl their lyrics. Nonetheless, these two brothers managed to put out a very competent demo. However, when you get down to it, the songs are boring. If they are going to play in that classic metal genre, they are going to have to write some kick ass songs that people are going to remember and sing. Obviously, it is time for Shadows Eve to get some more people in the band that can write songs.
