Musashi's Review:
Aggresive and melodic death metal is Serberus' self-described sound. There seems to be no shortage of bands that have this sort of sound. Not that I don't like it. I love it. I just find it hard to tell one band from the next after a while. With song titles such as "Ancient Throne", "Dark Dream", "In Eternity" and "Gates of Fire", I find it hard to tell one song from another after a while. Serberus seem to fit squarely into this particular genre and don't break any new ground. That being said, I think this is an excellent demo which showcases their abilities as a band.The overall sound is very polished. The production quality is excellent. Of course, I think the guitars could sound a little ballsier and the drums could sound a little less clicky, but they get their point across. I can hear everything and can tell that these guys can play their instruments and can write metal songs.
Except for the guitar solo on "In Eternity", the whole demo is really well done. That guitar solo just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's the tuning or just bad note choices, but I kept wincing while listening to that.
Serberus is a good band with a professional demo. They could easily find their way onto a label and be playing at the next Milwaukee Metalfest. Certainly, if you live in Colorado, you should check them out. Hopefully, it won't be long before they find their way onto a tour that brings them out east.
