  • Kefka X's Review:
I hate punk. I really, really hate punk. I think it's some of the most poorly written music on the planet. It's silly. And I really, really can't stand the Misfits (with or without Glen). Maybe I just don't understand the underground punk scene, or maybe I really don't want to because I've heard all I can stomach. Whether it's at a local show or some crusty kid's '86 Civic, I know that there are a million different punk bands floating around, and they all sound the same: bad.

So immediately I'm going to be biased about this review because it's very punk influenced. Season of Evil is an old school crusty punk/thrash band from Illinois that apparently have good reviews from other sites for their demos, but this isn't going to be the case.

Everything about this band is just boring. The song titles are clichéd. The guitars are sloppy. The music is predictable. I know this is just a demo review and I'm usually forgiving when it comes to these matters, but the songs are just so poorly written and sophomoric that I can't disregard such flaws. From the production of this demo to the core elements of each song, the whole thing sounds like a garage band in their mid-teens who just discovered Cannibal Corpse and DRI at the same time. It's rushed and directionless. There's nothing unique about this demo in the slightest, it's all been done.

People who are really into the punk scene are going to like it for its nostalgic value, but I think it sounds like utter trash. It's just not good music. There are only so many Misfits-inspired acts that can exist on this planet before songwriting is destroyed completely. But hey, if you're into sloppy, horrible-sounding music with no diversity or originality whatsoever, add this to your roster of punk/thrash bands you can't remember the names of.
