Equinox's Review:
Scenteria are a four piece outfit hailing from the ever-simmering Metal hotbed of Sweden, and their newest demo CD is Path of Silence. As can be expected from any upstanding Swedish gentlemen, the band implements most of the staples of the Swedish Metal Diet, including fast, buzz-saw guitars, trotting drum beats and raspy vocals. Not to be lost in the sea of cookie-cutter Swedish bands, Scenteria also are smart enough to provide a nice mix of musical styles, with some old "Hold Out The Chord" Metal simplicity and some chunky Meshuggah style elements to boot. Did I hear a little bit of early Bolt Thrower in there? Either I did, or someone just drove by blasting Realm of Chaos out of their station wagon. These lads seem to understand and acknowledge their homeland's storied musical past and have incorporated this feel into a modern sounding shell. Scenteria utilize some nice, good ol' chugging, solid drumming with well-placed double bass bursts and well placed vocals. The last track, "Addicted", has plenty of nice In Flames-y beer stein waving guitar riffs (you know what I mean) and sweet guitar harmonies, and is probably the best track of the three, though there is no "weak" track to be found.
Scenteria is a very promising band with a good sound. They write nothing too complex as to alienate the listener, but also nothing too boring as to make the listener reach for the power button. These four young Metalheads should be scooped up by a label soon.
