  • Dguy's Review:
Well here we are, another week, another review. This week I gave a listen to upcoming one woman project Sadhara's most recent demo. This band, featuring New York singer/songwriter Katherine Burke on all instruments, vocals, and drum programming, is extremely reminiscent (one could say derivative) of Gothenburg death metal such as At The Gates and older Soilwork, as well as melodic black metal like Cradle of Filth. The vocals are some of the best female vocals I've heard in all of metal; the clean singing was average, but the harsh vocals are completely balls out (assuming a female can be said to do something balls out). The guitar work is very good, especially the leads and solos, despite the fact that most of the riffs could have been from any Gothenburg band's B-sides. One of the things I was REALLY impressed with was the drum programming. Despite the fact that the drum voices sound like shit, this is THE best metal drum programming I have ever heard. Also, the production is very admirable; a lot of high-priced Nuclear Blast/Metal Blade/etc. bands don't sound this good. The only possible improvements I could think of would be some fresher-sounding guitar riffs, and possibly a bit of keyboard on some songs . . . this is the kind of music that demands atmosphere slathered on, and what better way to do so? Overall, this demo is a pretty admirable effort, despite the fact that it clashed with my personal tastes quite a bit; but anyone into Gothenburg metal or "wanky" black metal will dig this 100%. I'll definitely try to check out any future releases by Ms. Burke. Thrash 'til fuckin' death!
