  • Hel's Review:
I'm pretty psyched to be getting demos from places as far away as Russia. And I'm even more stoked to have proof that people are playing quality metal underground around the globe. Now, I know it must have cost these guys a small fortune to send this all the way to New York, and I'm glad they did.

Their kit was understandably sparse, but they sent several copies of their flyer/bio along with the disc, booklet, and back insert. All were color and professional quality. The cover artwork, as well as the swirl on the back insert which would lie right underneath the disc when assembled into a case, were both extremely cool.

Their bio states that, "Rossomahaar was formed back in 1995 by Lazar (vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards and programming) in order to bring something new to the slowly exhausting itself black metal genre..." Sure, the English isn't perfect but this quote brings up two points worth making. First, this is a great way to start a bio (aspiring bands take note). Secondly, it give you a clue of what they sound like.

I really like what they've done on this album. It's extremely professional and the sound is much better than you'd expect. The music is varied and interesting. Ranging from undeniably black metal to downright death metal, nary a note was boring. Now, I've never subscribed to stereo-typing, but I think we all know that one about Russian metal bands. Listen to Rossomahaar, and I don't think you'll ever accept a stereotype again.
