Metal Militia's Review:
This is probably the most unusual demo I have received. Two CDR's with two songs on each CDR, both by the same band. Other than they contact information provided on the liner notes of the CD, there was nothing else that came with this package to tell me who "The Rebel Wounded" were. There isn't a website that I can find, and there really doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information about these guys. Well since I am your trusted demo reviewer I will do my best to describe these guys to you, but if it sounds appealing, don't get your hopes up to high; other than the e-mail address, I'm not sure how to find these guys.Anyway, the two CDR's that I got had about 16 minutes worth of music combined, I'll do a song by song review of them here, starting with the tracks on The Rebel Reel/Whiskey Rose CD. The first song sounds like some sort of minstrel, somewhat like that scene in Monty Python and The Holy Grail where Sir Robin in going through the forest and his minstrels are singing song about how brave Sir Robin ran away. I'm sorry I can't come up with a better analogy, but that's all this reminds me off. Not metal at all and kind of fruity. I actually don't think I can call this metal, it's far too sappy and lame, even for flower metal.
Track 2, "Whiskey Rose" is a slower, more emotional song. This song is even less metal than the first one. It's an acoustic track and it's a love song. Now this is very cheesy, one lyric goes: "Love me, love me with all of your heart Whiskey Rose." Excuse me while I go regurgitate the crappy dining hall food I just ate. I cannot stand this pussy nonsense, I really don't know what these guys were thinking by sending me this demo, it's very very bad.
The second CD is where The Rebel Wounded actually create something worthwhile. Some Maidenesque moments from the opening track, "I Drink Your Blood" - this is something I can actually listen to. It's basically a Maiden rip off with lesser riffs and less balls than Maiden, but at least it's not a bunch of whiny garbage. While this song is hundreds of times better than the two tracks on the other disc, the material here is very repetitive. I think there are about six different vocal lines in this entire song, and each is repeated about twelve times, over the same basic guitar line. Boring.
Track two is more half-assed Maiden worship. What I said for the opening track holds true here. Repetitive and boring. If a band wants to get recognized they need to have something worthwhile. The Rebel Wounded have sent me one worthless disc of whiny, sappy garbage, and another disc of mediocre Maiden worship - unless they drastically improve I don't see much of a future for this band.
