  • Musashi's Review:

The Prophecy describe their sound as "characteristically English and finds its roots in the early nineties Doom/Death wave." I think that pretty much says it all. The Prophecy is a good doom band.

What strikes me as great off the bat is that the recording is really clear and crisp. From the cheap looking, photocopied CD sleeve I just naturally assumed this would sound low budget. I am pleasantly surprised that the recording is top quality. I could not have asked for a better sounding demo in that regard.

Unfortunately, the recording is so clear that any mistakes come right through. Fortunately there aren't very many mistakes at all, but I do find that sometimes the guitar and bass do not synch up perfectly with the drums. At first I thought the guitar and bass were rushing ahead of the drums, but then in "Cursed Earth" the drum solo is so bad that it makes me think that as usual it is the drummer's fault and not O'Shea's. Over the course of the demo, this just robs the music of momentum and of groove.

Another cool thing about this demo is that while I am listening to it I am watching my new "Lord Of The Rings" DVD and the music creates a great mood for all the crazy battle scenes. I guess if there were more doom metal songs in movies, I would probably be a bigger fan.

Although the style of metal does nothing for me, I think The Prophecy do an excellent job. For those of you that are looking for some English Doom/Death metal, try The Prophecy on for size.
