Slither's Review:
Pitch Black: God-awful in film format, but damn fine when used as the title for a melo-death band from Denmark. The superb demo currently blessing my ears deftly sidesteps the 'melo-dick' trap by ditching the Gothenburg tradition of tremolo picking old Iron Maiden riffs. Instead what this band crafts is an interesting listen utilizing the darker side of melody and at all times keeps the tool in reserve as an augmentation rather than bludgeoning the listener with a contrived gimmick. If forced to cite a specific reference then I would say Ho Drakon-era Therion or perhaps some Edge of Sanity sans old Danny Boy's pension for sugary leads.

I like the demo a lot guys, but it wouldn't be a demo review if I didn't nitpick a bit. The clean vocal passages aren't poorly planned in the big picture, but your singer goes from impressive to belly-flop when he discards the growl. His tone in the clean parts is almost as uninspired as that douche from Shadows Fall. Brief vocal follies do not a skull reduction make, so in the end this is a promising demo from a band that could do very well if the focus stays on song craft.

Favorite Track: "As I Close My Eyes" (A fantastic acoustic album closer.)
